Senior Director, DEI Business Strategy

Sysco Corporation

April is an attorney by trade and practiced employment law for over 14 years before transitioning into the DEI space. She is admitted to practice in California and Texas and spent the first 11 years of her career at Littler Mendelson, the world’s largest labor and employment law firm, representing employers in a variety of industries.

April joined Sysco as Employment Counsel in August 2018, advising the Company’s HR professionals on employment law issues arising under federal and state law, including pre-employment screenings, performance management, leave and accommodation issues, wage and hour compliance, and non-compete issues.

In June 2021, April accepted a 6-month project assignment, helping Sysco’s new (and first) Chief Diversity Officer stand up the Company’s global DEI office. When those 6 months expired, she chose to take a full-time role on the DEI team and is now Senior Director of DEI Business Strategy.  In this role, she is responsible for developing and executing enterprise-wide DEI strategies, serving as the primary liaison between the DEI team and other Sysco functions to ensure that DEI is embedded throughout the organization.

April also serves as the President of Catalyst, Sysco’s Associate Resource Group for Black associates and allies. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Baylor University and her Juris Doctorate from Howard University School of Law.
