This program will begin with an opening keynote from Anna Maria Chávez, Founder of the Fearless Global Initiative, sharing highlights from her storied career including her role as CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA – the first woman of color in that role. Also recognized for her work supporting and empowering Hispanic communities, Chávez was the recipient of the 2013 Excellence in Community Service Award from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, as well as the 2013 Graciela Olivarez La Raza Award from UnidosUS (formerly the National Council of La Raza). She is also a member of the National Board of Directors for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
In addition, participants will hear two case studies from leaders highlighting specific strategies and initiatives they have implemented to drive change in their organizations and communities.
Priscilla Fuentes, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Cascades Region and Co-Chair of the Latino Resource Group, will share strategies of success for talent and business impact from her ERG’s impactful mentorship program along with their work engaging folks working to support migrant children at the Mexico/US Border. Other wins from the ERG include supporting the development of a Latino D&I Action Plan and an Executive Diversity Dashboard, surfacing a need for a now-hired Director of Multicultural Communications, and developing a Spanish Content-Review Team to oversee translations of a number of our key policies and community outreach information.
Johanna Figueira, activist and Senior Social Media Manager at Amazon, will share the impact of her work with Code for Venezuela, a platform that gathers technologists to address Venezuela’s needs for information and medical supplies, along with ideas for how it could be used as a model to help other communities in need.
