Diversity in Industrial Manufacturing

In a Deloitte survey of women in manufacturing, 42 percent of respondents represent women in industrial products, process, and transportation industries, yet those industries did not make the list of those best at attracting and retaining women.

Respondents were asked to rank top reasons women are underrepresented in the manufacturing industry:

• 73% industry bias toward men for leadership
• positions
• 53% organizational culture norms
• 47% lack of mentorship
• 46% perception of manufacturing overall

In the survey, 71% of women have experienced a gender pay gap in the industry.
