This report addresses how firms in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) can use more intentional language and design to foster belonging across their teams and projects. It notes the gap between the high percentage of women in design roles versus their underrepresentation in leadership, especially women of color. The guide presents an industry-specific vocabulary (e.g. accessibility, accommodation, activist architecture, universal design) and shows how inclusive language supports better collaboration, equity in decision-making, and buildings that work for more people. It also points to related resources on universal design and communication tools for more sensitive, inclusive workplaces.
