Honoring Women’s History Month & International Women’s Day
Each March, Women’s History Month (WHM) is celebrated in the United States. During March, we commemorate the contributions and achievements of women in the United States. The annual celebration emerged from a congressional resolution that designated one week, beginning on March 7, 1982, as “Women’s History Week.” In 1987, the National Women’s History Project petitioned Congress to extend the week and dedicate the entire month of March to women’s history. March has been proclaimed by the President as Women’s History Month each year since. March also encompasses International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, a day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women globally. The 2026 International Women’s Day theme is “Give To Gain”. The theme for Women’s History Month is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.”
This guide includes ways to honor WHM and IWD by leveraging resources, linking initiatives to business impact, leading with intersectionality, and building one’s knowledge base on women’s history and topics concerning women.
