An executive sponsor is a senior leader who helps bridge the gap between an Employee Resource Group (ERG) and the organization’s executive team. They act as a mentor, advocate, and advisor for the ERG, and help ensure that the ERG’s goals align with the organization’s overall strategy. This tool contains various resources on the roles and responsibilities of executive sponsors, ways DEI teams can support the onboarding of new executive sponsors, and the different types of meetings ERG leaders can have with their executive sponsor. A checklist template is available to evaluate executive sponsor activity based on areas that executive sponsors have demonstrated and/or can aspire to demonstrate.
