The H-1B program allows organizations in the United States to temporarily employ foreign workers in occupations that require highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific specialty or its equivalent. H-1B visas are approved for 3–6 years and are often used by large technology and consulting firms. Recently, executive orders and the Department of Homeland Security have proposed significant changes to this program.
