Hiding a disability at work can be exhausting, frustrating and limit potential. This national study found what individuals on the autism spectrum, with cognitive disabilities and with mental illness experience in the recruitment, onboarding and everyday work process and how their employers can help.
Seramount’s 2016 study on all people with disabilities revealed that employees with non-apparent disabilities had a significantly different work experience and were less satisfied with their jobs than people with apparent disabilities. Based on that research, we decided to take a deeper look at employees in the “Uncovering Hidden Potential: Non-Apparent Disabilities in the Workplace” survey, focusing on three groups—those with mental disabilities, cognitive disabilities, and people with autism, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Asperger Syndrome.
