These principles address the need to localize DEI, ensure leadership commitment, develop a compelling change rationale, embed DEI in internal and external ecosystems, and hold teams accountable. She will explore how leaders can navigate the complexities of global DEI advancement and orchestrate large-scale change that positively impacts businesses and communities.

2. Progressive
Progressive has a strong culture of developing and promoting their people. In 2020, they hired more than 5,000 people and promoted nearly 600 new managers. The growth of their business has created tremendous opportunity for advancement and more than a quarter of their people moved into new positions in 2020. To support the development of current and future leaders and the career paths of all employees, they have a robust variety of tools that they leverage. They have recently expanded two new career pathing initiatives, to build upon this foundation and to support their key DEI objectives. This includes expanding their Multicultural Leadership Development Program, as well as introducing intensive programs focused on developing IT and analytical talent.

This session will explore some best practices JBG SMITH implemented to expand their talent pool, drive accountability, and build D&I competency, which resulted in 100% diverse hires (consisting of women and people of color) in their 2021 Summer internship and entry-level talent programs.
